Foreign tourists may require a visa and must have a valid passport. Please contact us if you are not sure about visa requirements.

Airport Taxes

Normally these are included in your airticket costs but if not, we will notify you.

Currency

ZAR - South African Rand. Value thereof fluctuates, so if current values are needed please enquire from us. Most international credit cards are accepted and foreign currency as well as travellers cheques can be exchanged at all commercial banks. Value Added Tax (VAT) on goods purchased to be taken out of South Africa, may be redeemed. Remember to retain those invoices.

Health Requirements

These vary depending on the country of origin and any country visited en route. Please consult your doctor or visit www.travelclinic.co.za or contact us. Precautions must be taken if there are plans to enter Malaria risk areas.

Drinking water is generally safe, however, in rural areas you are advised to take bottled water.

Clothing

Comfort is the order of the day. Informal for the most part with occasionally requiring smart attire for some venues. In the game reserves we suggest lightweight, of neutral tones. Remember a warm jacket for game drives. Sun hats are recommended, as is sun protection cream with a high factor. Remember your comfortable shoes and swimwear.

Driving

Our major links and city roads are generally regarded as impressive, however, isolated and rural areas tend to be rough. Most major road links are supported by Tolls and have refreshment and gasoline stations at regular intervals. Motorists drive on the left-hand side of the road.

Speed limits on motorways and highways are generally 120kmh (75mph) and in towns and cities the limit is 60kph (35mph). Please ensure you are in possession of a valid driver's licence.

Language

We have 11 official languages, the most commonly used are English, Afrikaans, Zulu, Xhosa and Sotho.

Communications

In most parts of the country, international standards are upheld.

Tipping

It is accepted that a 10% tip is given for meals.

Banking Hours

Most banks are open from 9am to 3.30pm weekdays and 8.30am to 11am on Saturdays.
