Hermanus
A delightful old village situated on the rugged coastline
that partly encompasses Walker Bay, the famous nursery of the Southern
Right whale species.
Each year the whales migrate from the subantarctic to calve. They
arrive in June and then leave again in December,. Peak whale watching
season is in September and October, during which time these huge
mammals can be seen frolicking in the ocean from vantage points
on the cliffs above.
Hermanus also boasts unspoilt beaches such as De Plaat which stretch
12 kilometres from The Klein River Lagoon to De Kelders.
